In recent weeks our Design Manager, Paul Barnes, has successfully completed a Carbon Literacy Course.
In partnership with a nearby customer, Paul was invited to take part in their internal course which was provided for their employees to educate them about sustainability and how they can make a difference in the workplace.
Paul attended their course for a couple of hours a week for a total of 4 weeks completing four separate education modules.
Module 1 – The science & Physics – An Introduction to Carbon Literacy and Greenhouse Gases
Module 2 – Weather and climate – How the climate is changing
Module 3 – Our personal choices and actions – What can we do differently?
Module 4 – Organisational actions and impacts – What can we do differently?
Sharon Garner, Director, Red Rose Packaging commented; “We are committed to exploring all options to help our business become more sustainable and the qualification Paul has completed will help us better understand how we can achieve this.
“Paul is already very passionate about sustainability outside of the workplace, and for him to be able to help us on a professional level will be most useful.”
Defined as ‘An awareness of carbon costs and impact of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis’ the team is now seeking ways to make improvements to its carbon literacy. This will complement the work it does each year to keep the business operating in a carbon neutral way through a recognised off-setting programme.
Paul is now working on developing a course for the wider Logson Group to support other group company’s and their employees understand the part that they can play in making our businesses more sustainable.
Paul concluded; “I firmly believe that businesses need to place carbon literacy high on their agendas and learn more about what they can do to make improvements.
“Taking action as a company also reduces energy consumption and can reduce costs so it seems like a great step in the right direction!”
